Welcome to the Mathematical Statistics section
Mathematical statistics is an interdisciplinary subject aimed
at developing models and analytical methods for systems containing a
substantial element of random variation. Often the motivation for the
research is a practical problem involving the development and analysis
of a mathematical statistical model. In this way the section is in touch
with many different areas:
- The development of forecasting models, predictive control
and modelling of dynamic systems (Time series analysis),
General optimal and adaptive control methods (Stochastic
control theory),
Planning and analysis of tests (Statistical design and
analysis of experiments),
Models for growth and decomposition of biological systems
(Environmental statistics),
Random sampling plans and other methods for quality control
(Statistical quality control),
Analysis of spectral data (Multivariate analysis and
classification)
